Monthly website partnership or one-time build: which suits a treatment center?
The real question is not how you pay. It is who keeps building, patching and checking the site once it is live.

Pay once if the site will barely change after launch and someone on your staff owns edits, updates and compliance review. Choose a monthly partnership if the site keeps changing, with new programs, insurance contracts, staff and ad landing pages, because each new page has to pass the same checks as the first: LegitScript describes ongoing monitoring (opens in a new tab) of certified providers, and a WordPress site needs regular updates (opens in a new tab). Either way, the files, the domain and the hosting should be in your name.
At a glance
| Factor | Monthly partnership | One-time build |
|---|---|---|
| How you pay | A fixed monthly fee | One project fee, with changes after launch quoted separately |
| What ends at launch | Nothing: building continues at a set pace | The engagement |
| New pages after launch | Included in the plan | A new quote, or a job for someone in-house |
| Compliance on new pages | Should be part of the work: ask who checks them | Your responsibility after handover |
| Updates and security | Part of the arrangement, agreed in writing | Your responsibility, or a separate maintenance contract |
| Budget shape | Even and predictable; more in total if the site never changes | Front-loaded; less in total if the site never changes |
| Ownership | Should be yours: get it in writing | Should be yours: get it in writing |
| The risk | Paying for capacity you do not use | A site that falls behind as the center changes |

Which to choose
Choose a monthly partnership if
- Programs, insurance panels or staff change more than once or twice a year.
- You run, or plan to run, ads that need their own landing pages.
- Nobody in-house checks new pages for LegitScript and privacy issues.
- You want a fixed cost you can pause, rather than one large project fee.
Choose a one-time build if
- The site is small, stable and rarely changes.
- Someone on staff handles edits, updates and compliance review.
- You have budget now but not every month.
- Ongoing work will go to a marketing hire or an agency you already use.
What decides it
Treatment center sites do not stand still
A new level of care, a new insurance contract or a new clinician means a new or changed page, and every one has to say only what the center can support. LegitScript describes ongoing monitoring (opens in a new tab) of whether certified providers stay compliant with its standards and with platform ad policies, and charges an annual certification fee (opens in a new tab). The website is part of what stays under review.
Somebody has to patch it
If the site runs on WordPress, its own hardening guide (opens in a new tab) says older versions are not maintained with security updates, and that plugins should always be kept updated. On a one-time build, that work belongs to whoever you hand the keys to. Make sure it is a name, not an assumption.
Ownership should not depend on the model
A monthly fee is no reason to rent your website, and a one-time fee does not guarantee you own it. Ask who holds the domain, the hosting account, the code and the analytics property, and get the answer in writing. The guide to who owns your website lists the contract clauses to check.
Where a one-time build genuinely wins
A site that does not change. If your programs and insurance panels are stable and someone on staff owns updates, a monthly fee buys capacity you will not use. Pay once, keep every file, and spend the monthly money on something that moves census. A monthly plan also costs more over any stretch in which nothing new gets built, so judge one on what ships each month, not on the launch.
Where KhanWork fits
Every one of our tiers is a monthly partnership, priced in public: Foundation Partner $1,000 a month, Growth Partner $2,500 and Scale Partner $5,000, billed monthly with no minimums, and you can pause or cancel anytime. Billing is monthly in advance, and cancelling takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Foundation is a brand refresh and one landing page, live in 14 business days from the day content and assets land, then one new page every month. It is not a full website; that is Growth, which builds every page from a roadmap, with unlimited requests worked one at a time on a 48-hour turnaround. Scale is for operators with more than one location.
Everything we deliver is yours: files, pages and brand assets. Hosting is not included in any tier; it lives in your own account, so if you cancel, the site keeps running.

Frequently asked questions
That depends entirely on the contract, so ask before you sign. With KhanWork, everything delivered is yours, the files, pages and brand assets, and the site runs in your own hosting account, so it keeps running. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
It should not be. A payment plan spreads the cost of one build. A partnership keeps building after launch: on KhanWork's Foundation tier that is one new page a month, and on Growth it is unlimited requests worked one at a time. If a monthly quote stops producing new work after launch, it is a payment plan.
With KhanWork, yes. Billing and work stop while you are paused, unused days are banked and pick up when you resume, and kickoff slots are not held during a pause. Whoever you hire, ask for the pause terms in writing.
