What it is

A messaging platform whose website chat widget starts conversations that continue by text, alongside reviews and payments.

How it connects to a website

  • Embed

Podium's Webchat is a code snippet placed before the closing body tag in your site's footer. For WordPress and Wix, Podium's listings describe a Connect step that opens its Website Tools page.

What KhanWork does with it

  • Install the Webchat snippet sitewide and check it on a phone.
  • Make the first automatic reply say plainly what happens next, by text, without asking for health details.
  • Track chat starts as counts in analytics, never message content.

Setup, as the vendor documents it

  1. Copy your Webchat code from your Podium account.
  2. Paste it before the closing body tag in your website's footer, or use Podium's Connect flow for WordPress or Wix.
  3. Publish, refresh the site and confirm the widget appears.

What to watch out for

Where patient details can slip out with Podium, and what the vendor's own documents say to switch on, switch off or ask for.

  1. Webchat becomes text messaging

Podium says customers start conversations on your website and the conversation continues over text. Texts sit on phones other people pick up, so keep templated replies free of health details.

  2. Marketing opt-ins are not care

Podium's WordPress and Wix Webchat listings describe collecting marketing opt-ins to build a subscriber list. Keep promotional consent separate from the admissions conversation.

  3. Confirm the BAA applies to your account

The BAA attaches through the terms for covered entities and business associates. Podium's Webchat product page does not mention healthcare or HIPAA, so confirm with Podium that your account is set up under it.

Frequently asked questions

Podium's terms of service say that if a client is a covered entity or business associate, Podium and the client agree to the terms of Podium's BAA.
